Annual Translation Day and Magazine & Book Launch-2018

To mark the International Translation Day, the Translation Studies Unit had arranged an exhibition on the 2nd of October 2018 and release of Annual Magazine and cultural programmes on the 3rd of October 2018. The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof.Vigneswaran, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna at 9.00 am. Dr.K.Suthakar, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Registrars, Lecturers and Staff from other departments participated in the exhibition. Teachers and students from J/ Vembadi Girls’ High School and J/ Kokuvil Hindu College viewed our exhibition eagerly. Meanwhile, some Indian Government servants visited the University of Jaffna, accidentally viewed and appreciated our students’ innovative ideas and performance. There were nearly twenty-five exhibits and around sixty students demonstrated about their exhibits. Among all the exhibits, sample of court interpretation, Short film, Persian poets and puppet show drew the attention of all viewers.

In order to expose the skills and talents of our students, the cultural programme was held at kailasapathy auditorium, University of Jaffna,at 9,.30 am. Dr.K.Suthakar,Dean, faculty of Arts, Mr. Eswarathasan, Council Member, University of Jaffna, Prof.Mohanathas, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Lecturers, Visiting Lecturers and students from our unit and other departments joined the cultural events. Awarding ceremony for students who won in the competitions such as exhibition, Translation of documents and literary translation was held on that day. Further Drama related to translation studies, Songs, cultural dances and speeches were performed by our students in an excellent way.

Our annual magazine “Translator” was released in cultural programme by the community of Translation Studies. The magazine contains the articles of students and lecturers related to translation. It was reviewed by Mr. V.Paranthaman, Senior Lecturer, ELTC, in English and Mr. Selvamanogaran, Lecturer, Hindu Civilization in Tamil. Through their views, we got appreciation and suggestions for enhancing the students’ abilities.

The effort of the students is highly appreciated.
