Annual Translation Day 2025:  Exhibition and  Magazine Launch

The Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna, successfully organized the Annual Translation Day 2025 on the 14th of October 2025. The event served as a significant academic platform to celebrate the discipline of translation and its interdisciplinary importance in promoting linguistic diversity, cultural exchange, and intellectual collaboration. It brought together faculty members and students not only from the University of Jaffna but also from the University of Sabaragamuwa and Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The presence of distinguished guests further enriched the event by encouraging reflections on the evolving role of translation in academia and society.

The programme commenced at 9.00 a.m. with an exhibition showcasing a variety of translation-related works. These exhibits demonstrated the creativity, analytical skills, and research contributions of students. The exhibition underscored the department’s commitment to cultivating practical knowledge alongside theoretical understanding. Notably, exhibits such as the parliamentary interpretation simulation, a documentary on Sri Lankan slang and dialects, a puppet show, and an adapted ghost house stood out for their creativity and innovation.

A major highlight of the day was the launch of the department’s annual magazine, The Translator – Issue VIII. This edition showcased students’ writing and translation skills in Tamil, English, and Sinhala. . The magazine was reviewed by Mr. Mani Vellupillai, a visiting lecturer in the Department of Translation Studies, who offered constructive feedback and suggestions for future improvements.
